Sen. Ed Jackson Appointed Chairman of Government Operations Committee

(NASHVILLE) – State Senator Ed Jackson, R-Jackson, was appointed Chairman of a key committee in the Tennessee Senate - the Government Operations Committee. The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Randy McNally on Thursday, January 16th as the Senate wrapped up an organizational session in Nashville. . Additionally, Jackson was assigned to serve on the Health Committee, State and Local Government Committee, and Rules Committee.

“Senator Jackson is a strong and dependable member of our Senate team,” said Lt. Gov. McNally. “The Government Operations Committee has a vast portfolio of issues under its purview and touches every area of state government. Its oversight function is critical. I am confident Senator Jackson will be an excellent leader for this committee.”

The Senate Government Operations Committee is generally perceived as one of the most powerful in the General Assembly, as it serves as a government watchdog to ensure efficiency and accountability. It oversees legislation to create, reauthorize, reorganize or sunset departments, commissions, boards, agencies or councils of state government. The Committee also hears bills regarding licensing and certification of occupational or professional groups, and reviews regulations promulgated by all Tennessee departments, commissions, boards or agencies.

Jackson. “This committee plays a critical role in ensuring state government and its agencies operate in the most effective and cost-efficient manner possible. As chairman, I look forward to focusing on how we can best serve the people of Tennessee.”

Ed Jackson is a native of Madison County, and has a distinguished record of public service. Prior to being elected to the Senate in 2014, he served in the Army National Guard for seven years. Outside of public service, Jackson is a small business owner. He lives in Jackson with his wife, Marilyn.
