About Lt. Gov. McNally
The Honorable Randy McNally was first elected by the Senate to serve as Speaker and Lieutenant Governor in 2017. In this position, he is the head of the Senate and first in the line of succession for governor.
Lt. Governor McNally is a longtime public servant from Oak Ridge. He represents District 5 in the Tennessee Senate and has been a member of the General Assembly since 1978.
McNally is known for his pivotal role in exposing one of the most significant corruption scandals in Tennessee legislative history: Operation Rocky Top. Beginning in 1986, he worked undercover with the FBI for three years, wearing a wire to assist in uncovering a scheme where lobbyists bribed lawmakers to protect organizations operating illegal bingo games. His actions were instrumental in bringing the scandal to light and restoring integrity to the legislature.
Lt. Governor McNally is also recognized across the state as a finance expert. McNally’s leadership has been key to maintaining Tennessee’s record as one of the best fiscally managed states in the nation.
Lt. Governor McNally is a retired pharmacist and earned his B.S. degree from Memphis State University with a Pharmacy Degree from the University of Tennessee. He lives in Oak Ridge, Tennessee with his wife Jan. They have two adult daughters and three grandchildren.
